Microneedling

• Avoid anticoagulants and blood thinning medications and supplements 4 days prior to treatment. If you are on a prescription medication, please speak to your doctor before discontinuing any medication.

• Must not have new permanent makeup or injectables such as Botox, Restylane, Xeomin, Sculptra, etc. on or near the treatment area for at least 4 weeks prior to microneedling.

• Use sunscreen with an SPF 30 or more daily. Sunburned skin can not be treated. Skin that is thin, sensitized or compromised in any way may not be treated until fully healed.

• Sun exposure and/or use of tanning beds, including self tanning products must be avoided 24 before and after the treatment, preferably one week.

• Avoid any irritating skin care ingredients, such as any products containing Hydroquinone, bleaching creams.

• NO Retin A, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids or astringents for at least 3 days prior to treatment. Please advise your technician if you are currently using any prescription creams or products.

• Do not tweeze or wax the area one week prior to the treatment. This can cause irritation and burns to the skin.

• If you have any open cuts, wounds, abrasions or cold sore breakouts, we can not perform the procedure.

• Eat a healthy diet and take omega 3 fish oil daily.

• Sunscreen should not be applied after the treatment, so we recommend bringing a hat to your appointment to avoid sun exposure immediately following your procedure. Even small amounts of sun exposure should be avoided without SPF.

Even though microneedling is safe for all skin types, there are health conditions that may prevent you from being able to receive treatment or that require your doctor's approval. Please review the list below and notify us if any are applicable:

• Isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past 6 months
• Open wounds, cuts or abrasions on the area being treated
• Radiation treatment within the past 12 months
• Skin infection
• Herpes simplex (Active outbreak)
• Pregnant or breastfeeding
• History of keloid scarring
• Active acne
• Rosacea
• Diabetes
• Poor wound healing
• Botox within the past 2 weeks or dermal fillers within the past 4 weeks (treatment area)
• Eczema or psoriasis (treatment area)
• Raised moles, warts or lesions (treatment area)
• Actinic (solar) keratosis (treatment area) - may require a letter from physician
• Microneedling or other collagen induction treatments within past 4 weeks
• Other chronic skin conditions

Cold Sores and Skin Treatments

Cold sores are extremely common, affecting over 50% of the U.S. population. Many have repeated outbreaks. Trauma to the skin such as lasers, injections, and microneedling may induce the virus. If you have a history of cold sores, make sure to let them know that an antiviral can be prescribed by their physician to avoid an outbreak. If you have an active outbreak, you will need to reschedule.

Acne

Microneedling should not be performed on clients with active acne (with or without inflammation). It can potentially spread acne bacteria in the dermis, further aggravating the skin.

Contraindications with which microneedling should absolutely ​not​ be performed:

• Scleroderma
• Blood clotting problems
• Cardiac abnormalities
• Vascular diseases
• Immunosuppression
• Active bacterial or fungal infections
• Scars less than 3 months old
